Let’s be real - writing your wedding vows can feel a little nerve racking. You want to be romantic… but not too cheesy. Sincere… but not a sobbing mess. Funny… but not a stand-up routine.
The good news? You don’t need to sound like a poet or rom-com scriptwriter. You just need to sound like you.
Start with your feelings
Think about what you love about your partner and the special moments you've shared.
Don’t try to be fancy—just scribble your thoughts like you're journalling. This will give you the heart of your vows before you even try to shape them.
Pick Themes to Focus on
Your vows don’t need to cover everything. In fact, the best ones usually stick to a few key ideas.
What you love about them, What they have brought to your life and the promises you’re making for the future.
Make a List Before You Try to Write
A super simple formula that works for almost everyone.
3 things you love about them, 2 things they’ve taught you, 1 promise you absolutely know you’ll keep. From there, your vows will almost write themselves!
Keep it short and real
Aim for about 1 to 2 minutes when spoken, long vows can lose their impact (and you’ll thank yourself when the nerves kick in!).
Make sure your vows sound natural and true to your voice. Authenticity is key, and don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it.
Bonus tip: read them out loud at least once to make sure they sound natural and feel true to your voice.
Be Real. Be You.
Some of the most beautiful vows I’ve heard weren’t “perfect” at all—they were raw, simple, funny, or vulnerable.
“I promise to love you even when you leave wet towels on the floor.
”“I vow to keep learning how to love you better, every single day.
”“I still can’t believe I get to marry my best friend.”
The truth is, your partner loves you, not a version of you trying to sound impressive.
Don’t Be Afraid to Ask for Help
If you're stuck, I’m here for it, you shouldn’t have to figure it out alone. (This is all part of my package).
I’ve seen couples go from completely blank to completely brilliant—all it takes is a little heart and the right guidance.
